UK Network of Age-friendly Communities
We want more people to live in age-friendly communities – that’s why we’re working in collaboration with the UK Network of Age-friendly Communities to bring about change and promote better use of evidence and learning at the local level.
Together we aim to:
- Connect communities that share our ambition of creating more age-friendly communities
- Share learning about what works across age-friendly cities and communities to create the conditions for ageing better at the local level
- Feed learning in and out of the network, by promoting better use of evidence, and by documenting and disseminating good practices on what communities are doing
- Provide support to places that want to become more age-friendly to understand how they can do this, by joining the network, through training, accessing information and resources.

A global network

The UK Network of Age-friendly Communities is affiliated to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities (GNAFCC).
The Global Network’s flexible framework promotes a multi-sectoral approach to active and healthy ageing, placing people in later life at the heart of decision-making.
The UK Network works with both existing GNAFCC members and those who are working towards membership. It also creates and shares resources – for example The Research & Evaluation Framework for Age-friendly Cities, many of which are relevant to a broader audience of places working to create a better later life for their residents.
What is an ‘age-friendly community’?
We asked UK Network of Age-friendly Communities members from Newcastle, Bristol, Belfast, and Greater Manchester.
